Thesis for independent novel

  1. In A Temporary Matter in "Interpreter of Maladies" by Jhumpa Lahiri, it argues that grief could make us pay attention to daily tiny event. The death of Shukumar and Shuba's child and the couple's stranger-like relationship make Shukumar notice how valueable their realationship was.

    1. This thesis is too simple and not creative enough. Think about what effect the death of the child had, why it had that effect, and why Shukumar decided to without knowledge of what the son had looked like until the end.

  2. In the autobiography of "The Autobiography of Malcolm X" by Malcolm X, the novel shows that maturity brings different perspectives of social life throughout one's lifespan. While white people seemed to be savage like in Malcolm X's childhood, he slowly develops friendships with many whites that would change his perspective on white people his life and fight for African American freedom.

  3. The book claimed as his masterpiece, "East of Eden" describes the beguiling intentions of love and how it can captivate vulnerable men. It also correlates with the biblical story of Abel and Cain as preferable siblings are often endangered by the one that is not as beloved.
