Quote from "The Crucible"

"He believed he was being persecuted wherever he went, despite his best efforts to win people and God to his side" (138).
This is similar to Hester's situation in The Scarlet Letter. She tried to be a good person and help out whenever she could. She was generous and gave to the poor. However, people still condemned her as an adulterer, and therefore a sinner, despite her best efforts.

  1. I think that this quote is similar because this character and Hester both feels like the whole world's attention is on them. They think that everyone is always staring at them. Although they both are trying their best to do good things, they still feel the glares and the attention. And I don't think that the amount of good things you do can effect other people's stare and attention. You can only make yourself feel better.
